WarBall Sonoma is more Fun and Safer than FootBall, Women* and Children Welcome as Archers
Do you like LARP? Playing Football? Ancient Warfare with safe weapons? Archery? Working out? Our non-profit NBL welcomes visitors, men, women and children for things to do in Sonoma for fun, adventure, and excitement. Yes, we have designed WarBall so anyone can have fun playing our revolutionary version of football. Women or kids without football experience or even seniors can be archers with safe arrows to shoot the running back or wide receiver. On offense they try and ‘take out’ the defensive Archers. Archers can’t be blocked or hit except by the (very) soft tip arrows, unless they agree to be full participants.
It’s Different and Safer but it’s Still Football
Even with our safe weapons, it’s still football (but as as described below, with wrestle or grappling type tackles, not full on football tackles as you must engage weapons first) for those who want contact. Same formations, passing, 4 downs, and most of the same rules such as pass interference.
*It is one of our primary design goals to involve Women in football and Women can play anywhere they want. Thus, we are not implying that females are limited to be Archer warriors. We look forward to women playing football alongside men. In WarBall, size and strength is less important than proficiency with weapons (our fighting sticks and safe swords).
If you are looking for something to do that’s fun in Sonoma, we’ll make sure you the best time playing our new sport. As a new sport, we want to introduce it to anyone, to spread the word, and we are available almost anytime. We want to perfect the sport and expand the brand our product.
It’s simple and such a fun thing to do and you can fish, swim in the Russian River afterwards. Even if it is only one of you, you can practice with one of our staff. When we have a lot of people scheduled, we can add you to a group session at the appointed time.
You can suit up and go one on one with our football/fighting stick against safe swords, plastic fighting ‘bo’ sticks, and safe arrows. Run some patterns and catch our WarBall and try and fight to gain yardage. It’s a exciting to play WarBall Sonoma! We have overhead and on field cameras to capture your memories. You can hang out afterwards and go swimming or fishing in the Sonoma’s Russian River, the water is very warm in the summer.
Why is WarBall Safer than Football?
You won’t be tackled or blocked until someone engages a safe weapon-to-weapon first, so that eliminates high speed body blows. Once engaged the tackle can happen. A blocker or tackler has to ‘pull up’ to engage weapons so you won’t be blind sided or have your legs taken out by a someone throwing their body at you. The effect is that tackles are low speed, wrestling type throw downs, and blocks are also lacking in momentum. Not to mention if you are carrying the football, a tackler who has dropped his staff to tackle you is at a significant disadvantage. The bottom line is that WarBall is safe weapons based, not about violent hitting. We emphasize the artistry of Martial Arts over giant hits and violence. The weapons will mostly target disabling devices on our armor that harmlessly impair vision and movement, so you won’t have to withstand heavy weapon shots. You are not allowed to strike anyone harder than necessary to trigger impairment equipment, especially to the head. Of course ball carriers have the football/staff combo to fight off defenders. As to general stick use to the body, only pushing with the stick is allowed, in the fashion of a standing push up, no clubbing or stabbing is allowed.
Get a work out lifting weights, and we can teach you Martial Arts, football and Judo for free.
We will train you, learn Bojitsu, Wing Chun, football and judo, as well. You can work out with some weights or go swimming in river afterwards.
Go swimming or fishing in the Russian River
We are adjacent to the Russian River and after your session feel free to explore, swim or fish. We have a picnic tables and camp kitchen with running water on the property. Camping is available nearby.
